Words matter. But so do context, tone, purpose and the details that make a text work.
I'm a Certified Public Translator, majoring in Law, from the University of Buenos Aires, currently registered with the Colegio de Traductores Públicos de la Provincia de Mendoza. I previously held registration with the Colegio de Traductores Públicos de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.
I also hold a diploma as an International Spanish Proofreader and Copyeditor from Fundación Litterae–Fundéu, and I was a founding member of IAPTI (International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters).
My professional background in aviation and travel goes back to 1992, long before I became a full-time freelance translator. I worked with United Airlines, Galileo International, Sabre Travel Network and Travelocity, in roles ranging from account management and training to translation, editing and project coordination.
I also taught Aviation English for CIPE–ANAC at Mendoza Airport. That first-hand industry experience gives me something particularly useful as a translator: I understand the terminology, the context and the people behind the texts.
I have translated full-length books as well as reports, catalogues, conference papers and educational content. Among my published work is Arte de la Prehistoria. Diseños Rupestres de Cuyo, by visual artist Laura Hart, for which I was the translator. The project involved extensive research into specialized terminology and methodologies in art and archaeology.
I have also worked on translation projects for US-based educational publishers specializing in textbooks.
Living and working in Mendoza naturally led to a deeper specialization in one of the region’s most important industries. I hold a postgraduate degree in English for the Wine and Viticulture Industries from Universidad de Aconcagua and have worked with wine-related and specialized content.
Over the years, my work has covered a wide range of specialized content, including:
Legal · Business · Tourism · Hospitality · GDS & Travel Technology · Education · Mining · Environment · Renewable Energy · Marketing
I don’t believe in translating word for word. Good specialized translation starts with understanding the meaning, context and purpose of the text.
I have been working as a freelance English–Spanish translator and copyeditor since 2003, after several years working in the aviation and travel industries. Over the years, I’ve worked independently and as part of multidisciplinary and international teams, coordinated translators, trained professionals, taught English to adults, and collaborated with clients, writers, editors and subject-matter experts.
When I'm not working with words, you'll usually find me reading, gardening, making jewellery, or spending time with family, friends and my pet.
In other words: I love words, but I also love finding out what they mean in the real world.
